Irish Wood Producers is forest owner group based in Wexford, Carlow, Kilkenny and Waterford. The group operates as a not-for-profit organisation with the primary aim of meeting forest owner needs in the management of their forestry, from afforestation to timber and biomass sales. The group’s advantage is clustering forestry plantations, big and small, and all associated activities to secure contractors and reach economy of scale for timber and biomass sales, optimising the economic return for forest owners without comprising the potential sawlog value through various silvicultural practices. The project foresters and harvesting manager manage members’ sites from afforestation, maintenance and inventory assessment, to infrastructure development, thinning and clearfell. Cooperation with other projects, agencies and groups has led to many collaborative projects, which has increased members’ knowledge and understanding through information/training events and the group has delivered 8 Knowledge Transfer Groups to date.
