The IFO (Irish Forest Owners) is an umbrella group that represent a number of smaller forest owner groups throughout Ireland.
Our members include:
- North Midlands Farm Forestry Group
- Wicklow Private Owners Woodland Group
- Waterford Forest Owner Group
- Offaly Farm Forestry Group
- North East Forestry Group
- Laois Forestry
- Irish Wood Producers
- Donegal Woodland Owners Society
Our committee is made up of a representative from each of these groups, with rotating Chairperson/Treasurer/Secretary. All our committee members are forest owners.
To maximise the benefits of forestry in both Ireland and Europe, it is important for forest owners to have an input into forestry policy through stakeholder groups. A strong united producer group is essential for forest owners have their voices heard where it matters the most, at policy and decision-making discussion tables in both Ireland and Europe.
Through the IFO, our member groups are harnessing the benefits of structured collaboration in order to increase the influence of the primary producer in the industry and to improve outcomes for forest owners. IFO have representatives on many steering/working groups within the DAFM. The IFO have formed strong links with other European forest owner groups. We are a member of CEPF (Confederation of European Forest Owners) and have a representative on their board since 2025.
When an individual forest owner contact’s the IFO, we guide them towards one of our member groups which are in their area. As a member of one of these groups, the forest owner is then automatically part of the IFO.
